Powder Coating

Powder Coating

Does Your Product Need Powder Coating ?

Finishes - We offer a number of powder coated finishes.

Standard - single colour top coat.

Two coat - anti rust phosphating coat then colour top coat.

Clear lacquer - can be applied over the standard finish or the two coat finish.

             - lacquer coating protects and enhances the end finish.

Clear coat is REQUIRED over most chromes, metallics, silvers, and certain other colors. Clear coating of any part adds 50% to the price. Multi-stage coatings add 50% per stage.

What’s included

Parts are to be free from any plastic, rubber, bearings, excessive dirt, oil, and grease.

Parts received not free of grease & oil will not be covered by any guarantee.

Cast parts such as aluminum as well as clad items such as chrome plated parts may experience “out gassing” which is bubbles in the powder coating caused by gasses escaping the part during curing in the oven. We will take every precaution to avoid this but we cannot be held responsible for any bubbling caused by porous castings or clad items.

The Process

Powered paint is used rather than liquid paint. It has almost the same consistency as flour. As the powder particles pass through the tip of the spray gun they are charged and the powder is attracted electrostatically to earthed parts. It was once thought only metals or alloys could be painted in this way but with our special powder coating gun, techniques and procedures. We can powder coat glass, ceramics and MDF ( But this take a lot of time and preparation)

The process cannot be used on items made from plastic, nylon or fibreglass. The powder will not attract or adhere to fillers either. Once the powder has been applied it adheres to the surface in much the same way as rubbing a balloon up and down on a fabric and then placing it on a wall. The part is then lifted together with its earthing hook and placed in a conveyor stoving oven.

Stoving

Parts pass through the oven for a twenty-minute period at a temperature of 180C. At this heat the powder melts, bonds to the metal and forms an even coating. Once they are removed from the oven the parts are hung up to cool for twenty or thirty minutes before they are packed. When the hooks are removed a small “witness” mark is left where the metal-to-metal earthing contact has been made.

Inspection

Our powder coated finish is usually 60 microns deep. It is very tough when compared with wet sprayed finishes and will not crack, craze or chip easily.

All finished parts are inspected (prior to bubble-wrap packaging and despatch) to ensure our high quality standards are not compromised in any way. Whilst most of our work arrives via personal calls from customers. We do also accepts parts via carrier & post.

Parts can be returned via carrier, Delivery  will be charged extra.
